Indie's Story

Indie’s story began with a simple act of compassion.

She came to a friend of Mark and Cathy, Jim, who gave her a safe place to roam on his small acreage alongside other horses. But as Indie grew, Jim knew in his heart that a young filly like her would need more time, training, and dedication than he could provide. Wanting the very best for her, he made a selfless decision—one that would change Indie’s life forever.

When Jim asked if their granddaughter Maddison would like to have Indie, her answer came with excitement and an open heart. At just 12 years old, Maddison did not yet have a horse of her own, but she already carried remarkable skill, patience, and determination beyond her years. Having helped train Rosa, she believed she could do the same for Indie, even though Indie was bigger, more spirited, and full of youthful energy. With only a little guidance from Mark and Cathy, Maddison began building something truly special with Indie—a partnership rooted in trust, courage, and love.

By the age of 15, Maddison had trained Indie so beautifully that she could ride her bareback in just a halter—a remarkable accomplishment that speaks to the bond they built together. Today, Indie is learning to welcome riders beyond Maddison, growing in confidence and continuing to thrive. She is a happy horse, full of life, enjoying her days with her herd mates and especially close to Star, her beloved pasture companion. Indie’s journey is a powerful reminder that with patience, belief, and heart, extraordinary things can happen. What began as a young filly in need of a chance has become an inspiring story of growth, connection, and possibility.
