Robbie's Story

Robbie’s story is one of survival, healing, and hope.

He was rescued alongside his family of five horses—April, Misty, his mother, Star, and Canyon—after living feral and free in the rugged mountains of Butte County near the Nimshew Gold Mine. As the youngest and wildest of the group, Robbie carried the spirit of the wild in every part of him. He was cautious, untamed, and unsure of the world that awaited him.

Then came another heartbreaking challenge. Robbie’s early training was interrupted by the devastating 2018 Paradise Camp Fire, which destroyed the ranch and changed so many lives forever. For a horse already learning to trust, it could have been a moment that set him back for good. But Robbie’s story did not end there.

Through patience, daily handling, and gentle care, Robbie slowly began to change. Day by day, fear gave way to curiosity. The instincts that once told him to run began to soften, replaced by the quiet realization that he was safe, loved, and no longer alone. The wildness in him did not disappear—it transformed into strength, sensitivity, and a spark of wonder.

Today, Robbie is a happy horse with a tender heart and a bright future. He once feared children and sudden movement, unsure of their intentions. Now, he has discovered something beautiful: children adore him, and he loves the attention, the brushing, and the connection they bring. Where there was once uncertainty, there is now trust.

With his training set to begin again in 2026, Robbie stands on the edge of an inspiring new chapter. His journey is a powerful reminder that healing takes time, trust can be rebuilt, and even the most frightened soul can learn to embrace love. One day, Robbie will make a truly wonderful horse for children—and it’s clear that he is already looking forward to becoming exactly that
